The hotel consists of two buildings—the main building and the residence, located 30 meters away.
We stand out thanks to our uniquely appointed spaces with regal charm. The A9 and A99 highways are just 1 km away. From the residence, you have direct access to the U6 subway line and can reach downtown Munich in just 20 minutes. The research center—home to the Technical University, the business campus, and the Hochbrück industrial park—is just a 2-minute drive away.
Main House
The main building features 24 modern rooms, each with its own unique design.
Warm color tones and unique King Ludwig II motifs create distinctive accents and a regal atmosphere. All rooms are equipped with walk-in showers in stylish bathrooms, a minibar, telephone, radio, Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs that allow you to receive all German channels.
Residence
Located just 30 meters from the main building, the residence features 27 rooms, each with a unique design.
The 25 rooms and two suites with rooftop terraces vary in size and amenities, and feature a simple yet stylish ambiance. All rooms are equipped with a minibar, flat-screen TV, and Wi-Fi. Some also feature a kitchenette, a couch, and a bathtub.
Check-in at the main building
Check-in takes place at our front desk in the main building. The front desk is staffed continuously from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Outside these hours, you can reach us by phone at any time via the on-call service. Check-in is available from 2:00 p.m. on the day of arrival, and check-out is due by 11:00 a.m. on the day of departure.
Depending on the category, your hotel room will be located either directly in the main building or in the residence. All public areas are located in the main building.
THE LOCATION
Our hotel is centrally located in the pedestrian zone of Garching, near Munich. It enjoys a quiet setting yet offers excellent transportation links, with the U6 subway line running right through the building and easy access to the A9 and A99 highways.

History of the House
Hotel König Ludwig II. has been located at the heart of Garching’s new town center from the very beginning.
The new town center began to take shape in 1977, during the tenure of Mayor Helmut Karl (1972–2002), largely on the grounds of the former Steiningerhof. The complex—free of car traffic, featuring a pedestrian zone and fountains, and combining residential, dining, cultural, and administrative spaces—was a forward-thinking initiative designed to give the town an urban center. The community center and town hall, along with residential buildings featuring picturesque arcades, hotels, restaurants, and shops, line Bürgerplatz and Rathausplatz, which are brought to life by a wide variety of activities. In 1986 the Hotel König Ludwig II. opened its doors.
In 1996, while studying tourism Tomma Kuhlmann took over the Hotel König Ludwig II. initially consisting of 24 rooms.
An exciting period began as a student project and became increasingly professional over time. In 2004, Garching underwent a transformation, and the construction of the U6 subway line began. As part of this project, a large building was constructed above the new Garching subway exit. This presented an opportunity to rent an additional 27 rooms in the immediate vicinity of the main building. Since steady growth had always been the goal, the decision was made quickly. The residence was leased, and Hotel König Ludwig II. decided to double the number of hotel rooms. With the opening of the U6 subway line, the current König Ludwig II Residence also opened its doors.
Our hotel has been in operation for 35 years now, and it has never been as beautiful as it is today. Get a glimpse of what we have to offer and look forward to your stay.
